One of my favorite comedians, Mitch Hedberg (may he rest in peace), has a great little stint where he says, "ya know, they could probably do away with Sesame Seeds and I wouldn't even miss them." So that got me to thinking... What could I live without and really not miss?
Naomi's Answer:
Television Commercials. While there are some that I like (a lot), it's not enough to make up for the LOUD interruptions and annoying content that is part of our TV-viewing world. This might be one of the main reasons I currently don't have cable TV. I watch a lot of Netflix these days, which is great fun, and I'm blessed by not having the sit through 30-second 'clever' spots.
Sometimes I see these ads and I think to myself, "wow. someone had a meeting and decided this was a good idea."

To answer this i thought about 'what can i Not live without?'
And my only thought was Gabriel. I know I would cease to exist if anything ever happened to my baby.
So as far as what can i live without? i guess most of everything. I thought I couldn't live without daddy, yet I find joy in his memory. I also feel his presence around me and I know he is not gone, rather just in a place where I can't see or hear him. (So I can view this as I've suddenly gone deaf and blind...just kidding.)
As for valuables however irreplaceable, they are still just things. They would be missed, sure. but things are things. I have found at times I'll be cleaning or going through old boxes only to hear myself say 'Oh, I forgot about this.'
However, if everything in my life were the same except for one thing, i would agree with my sister and live without loud annoying commercials. yuck.
Television in general...We cancelled satellite in September and, except for a few moments, we have not missed it at all. That, and people that don't know how to merge.
Politics at work and administrators who don't do their jobs well and make your job harder or have no clue what your job is or could be.
Staff meetings, too much rain, abuse of children, WAR.
Greed, self-absorption, people who lie cheat and steal as a norm, anyone too serious and no fun.
Can't live without: movies, art and music ... laughter ... friends ... community AND solitude.
TV commercials, rush hour traffic, chronic illness, abuse of any kind, improper grammar, ebonics, cancer, fear, brussel sprouts, beets, macro beers, English ivy.
Those are the things I could live without. What I couldn't live without is serendity, spirituality, family time, laughter among friends, dancing, pottery, use of my arms, legs, sight, etc.
I can live without jive. There was a time in my life I could not read anything in print without translating it into jive. When "the jive server" went down (RIP)a couple of years ago, I was forced to quit cold turkey. Sure, it was hard at first, but now I find that I can live a full and productive life without jive.
