QOTD - memorable restaurants

Do you consider yourself a foodie? I sure am, and I've enjoyed many great meals both in restaurants and at home. My friend Phil is having a going-away party at a local bar called Valhalla. While I've not been to this bar (is it a dive? dunno), the name brings back great foodie memories from my days in Sausalito.

Valhalla's piano and accompanying cello would warmly greet you as you stepped in from the boardwalk planks of the Sausalito nook. Tall ceilings and a seasoned bartender met you just beyond the piano. The food was always outstanding, buttery sauces, heavenly meats and cheeses and theirs was the kind of service where someone's job was solely to replace forks or spoons at the precise moment you might need them. I felt so taken care of, and I soaked it up! Even the restrooms were stunning.

I have eaten at Valhalla with my old roommate Kelly (we lived in walking distance), with my mom and dad when they came to visit and with a number of dear friends. Ahh, Valhalla, I miss ye so. I have heard another restaurant has sprouted up in its place.

Today's question - what are some of your most memorable restaurants?

There is a "Pedro's" in Los Gatos CA that I used to go to all the time. They have a great bar. Whenever we would go, there was always an old hispanic guy sitting at the bar who claimed his name was "Pedro". He would try to get people to buy him drinks and get girls to sit on his lap. He was surprisingly successful.

Pomegranete in Redmond is the home of the catering kitchen for Lisa Dupar Catering. The wall of the dining room is windows looking into that kitchen. If you go on Friday or Saturday, the catering kitchen is rocking as they are prepping for one huge event or another. It is great fun to watch and learn as the staff do their mass cooking thing.

The food at Pomegranete is excellent and the menu canges with the season, so there is always something new to try. It is my favorite place on the eastside.

Bastide in Los Angeles, hands down. "Deconstruction of a bloody mary", even though I don't like bloody marys, was chef Ludo LeFebvre's (try to say that when you're drunk) example of experimenting with food textures. Hard to describe but an adventure like no other.

i read this question when it first posted and couldn't think of an answer except 'three rivers' awesome burgers and good family memories.

except this morning i woke up with a vague recollection of a restaurant I ate at with jocelyn in venice. all i can remember is it was almost dark and it was of course on the water...for some reason i keep thinking we were seated on confined boat area seperate from the actual restaurant.

Hey mom: ALABAMA JACK'S!! -on the way to the florida keys. that whole trip is one of my favorite memories but alabama jack's hands down coolest biker bar/restaurant.
