QOTD - songs in your head

Most days when I wake up there is a song playing in my head. Thankfully, it's usually a good song, not some annoying guitar solo that gets stuck on repeat in my brain. This has happened to me for years and I remember telling Sue, my old roommate from San Francisco, and she just loved the idea that someone would wake up with songs in their head. It seemed such a happy thing to her, and I think she's right.

I have always thought it to be my own personal, ever-playing jukebox and whatever song is playing is the song I just happened to wake up in. There was a time when I kept a journal of the songs and what dreams I had that night, in case there was some radical connection. I think I only kept the journal for a day though. I was too busy singing to keep it up! :)

Today's song is "Only Joking" by the Indigo Girls.

It sure got me curious... what noises are in your head when you first wake?

that's so funny. just the other day i thought to myself, 'a question about songs in your head would be a great qestion.' sometimes when i'm walking around, i look at other people and try to imagine what songs are playing in their head. actually once on UW campus i ran into an ex housemate, who now homeless, tried to explain the music literally playing in his head. he wasn't, shall we say, mentally stable.

everyone is dancing through life at their own beat...

sometimes when I'm feeling especially sassy and empowered i'll sing, 'i can be that woman.' or when i was training for the marathon i was often energized by missy elliot's '4 my people' or beastie boys 'intergalactic' (as the b boys sing 'i run the marathon to the very last mile...'). and just yesterday, all beautiful and sunny, someone drove by my house with 'summer of '69' blasting through their open car windows.

it would figure, though, that the day you ask this question I am not singing any particular song in my head.

Usually, the first sound I hear in the morning is one of the kids...Which is music in it's own right...Lately it has been 'Rehab' by Amy Winehouse...I cannot get that song outta my head...Another one that has been bouncing around in there has been 'American Idiot' by Green Day and 'The Hennepin Bridge' by Brian Setzer.

Yep, I totally live w/ my own jukebox inside my head ....currently playing "In the Arms of the Angels" ...especially since some nasty teen stole my iPod from school.

They are "B*#$@ people and I hate their a** faces" [Waiting for Guffman].

Songs do change, and sometimes it's fun to pass a song off to someone else just by mentioning it. HA! tag, you got it now!

I am almost always singing something in my head. My kids at school laugh at me because I sing quietly whenever we are walking somewhere. Now that I've read all your responses...I can't actually honestly say which song is in my head, because all the songs you all listed are currently playing. Lately, it's been "Heavenly Day" by Patti Griffin.

Oh man, for several recent weeks, I had a combination of Bobby Brown's My Perogative and Bel Biv Devoe's Poison. I was constantly "I gave you five yellow roses and candy too."
Thank God that orenvorm found another ear to inhabit.
On Tue. on my way to a sunny baby play date, it was "Momma told me there'd be days like this," and that has stuck.

Odd, as I was reading this, I was loudly singing "Happy Boy" by the Beat Farmers. Strangely enough, I am at work. No one comes by my office much anymore...
