27 Week Doctor Visit

Yesterday I had another checkup and it went very smoothly, just as all my doc visits have gone for this pregnancy. My blood pressure is good, my weight gain is normal (although it's so hard to watch the scale go up!) and the baby's heartbeat is right around 150... perfect!

I also had blood drawn to get tested for gestational diabetes, a normal test they give all expecting mothers, and I should get the results back in a few days.

Last night we attended our 2nd Labor and Birthing class. It started out with relaxation exercises, and it's finally hitting home how important it will be to keep everything else relaxed while my uterus tightens up during contractions. I'm taking yoga twice a week which should also help with this. I'll be practicing a lot, so that I can achieve some 'body memory' - so I don't throw it all out the window when that first contraction hits. Aaron will be a big part in helping me remember how to relax.

In our class we found out that most of us are having boys, and only one couple doesn't know what they are having (I admire them). We also found out that every single couple is planning on an OB vs. a mid-wife. That really surprised me. We are considering bringing in a doula, as it will be nice to have a calm voice of reason when we're freaking out. :)

Next doc visit is in a few weeks.

Sounds perfect Naomi and Aaron! I love details.
I spent my whole pregnancy thinking that one moment I would just double over--suddenly in labor! Happily, it usually comes on more gradually so by the time you're really feeling the birth force, you've built up to it and gotten into your rhythm.
Man, I'm excited for you two/three!
This is life at its most divine--birth included.

HAHAHAHAHAHA I love the gradual labor image that Amy describes above. I WISH!

You'll do fine but it's going to suck worse than anything you've experienced. Then it will be done : )
